The NFL continued its countdown of the NFL Top 100 Players of 2026, with Warner landing at No. 54—fittingly, the same number he wears on his jersey. The ranking marks a significant drop from last year's No. 16 spot, with his injury playing a major role in the decline.
"Warner remains one of the game's top off-ball linebackers, but a devastating ankle injury in Week 6 meant he was sidelined for the final three months of the season," wrote NFL.com's Jeremy Bergman. "As a result, his peers appear to have left him off their ballots, and Warner, a perennial top-20 player, has fallen into the 50s. It's all surely setting up for a major comeback for Warner, who was coming off a third-straight All-Pro campaign and allowing the lowest completion percentage over expected (-18.9%) among linebackers at the time of his 2025 injury."
The good news for the 49ers is that Warner enters training camp fully healthy, returning as the emotional leader and centerpiece of San Francisco's defense.
"He's a fountain of knowledge, and he's the tone-setter on our team," tackle Trent Williams said in the reveal video. "The best linebacker in the league. Probably one of the best to ever play."
Before last season's injury, Warner had never finished an NFL season with fewer than 118 tackles. Even in just six games in 2025, he earned a 93.2 defensive grade and a 91.5 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus—both the highest among all off-ball linebackers.
"He's a guy that you have to be aware of where he is at all times," Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride said. "He's a guy who can cover anybody. Also a guy who is very physical and can stop the run."
Warner's impact on the 49ers defense extends well beyond the box score. With him on the field last season, San Francisco allowed just 5.5 yards per attempt on play-action passes. Without its star linebacker, that figure jumped to 7.9 yards per attempt.
Over eight NFL seasons, Warner has totaled 948 tackles, 38 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, 10 interceptions, 56 passes defensed, 17 forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries.
Warner is just the second 49ers player revealed in the NFL Top 100 Players of 2026 countdown. Quarterback Brock Purdy previously came in at No. 85.
