The wide receiver once again took to Instagram to voice his displeasure with the organization, stating the team regrets the contract extension it awarded him before the 2024 NFL season.
"And another thing—you wanna know why they really mad, though? They mad because they stupid," Aiyuk said in the video. "They dumb. They mad that they paid me $50 million in eight months and then voided my guarantees for 2027. And I'm about to be on a new team in 2026.
"They mad at themselves, for real. They just acting like they mad at me, but they stupid ass mad at themselves."
There is little doubt the 49ers are disappointed with how the situation has unfolded. The team signed the receiver to a four-year, $120 million contract extension ahead of the 2024 season, only to get seven games out of Aiyuk before he suffered season-ending ACL and MCL injuries.
However, the injury itself wasn't the primary source of frustration. It was Aiyuk's actions after the setback.
During his recovery, Aiyuk reportedly skipped team meetings and declined to participate in certain team activities, leading the 49ers to void future guaranteed money in his contract.
Rather than challenge the decision, Aiyuk cut off communication with the organization. The standoff ultimately left the 49ers with little choice but to place the disgruntled receiver on the reserve/left squad list, ending any possibility of a return in 2025 and effectively ending his time in the Bay Area.
At this point, it appears Aiyuk would welcome a release that would allow him to sign elsewhere. The 49ers, however, have little reason to act swiftly. While San Francisco hopes a trade partner emerges, the most likely outcome is that the team eventually releases Aiyuk.
"There's really no deadline to make a move at all," NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport said this week. "So, until and unless everyone gets tired of Brandon Aiyuk sending Instagram messages, this is going to be a storyline that takes us through the summer."
