Every morning, San Francisco 49ers linebackers Jalen Graham and Tatum Bethune make a point of stopping by K.J. Wright's office to ensure they are aligned with their position coach. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Wright identified one of the young linebackers as a potential breakout player for the 49ers defense in 2026.

"Tatum hasn't been healthy, but look out for Jalen Graham," Wright said. "He's a guy that can play all three positions. Right now, he's at the Mike backer because Luke [Gifford] got the concussion.

"Jalen Graham has looked phenomenal. The way he bends, the way he's seeing the game, his footwork. He's doing an outstanding job for us this OTAs."

Wright didn't dismiss the possibility that Graham's versatility could put him in the mix for the 49ers' strong-side linebacker job heading into the 2026 season.

"I love Jalen," Wright added. "His background—he played nickel in college. So, I love Jalen."

The 49ers selected Graham out of Purdue in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft. After spending his rookie season in San Francisco, he was waived before the 2024 campaign and briefly joined the Washington Commanders' practice squad. Graham later returned to the 49ers and has remained with the organization ever since.

Graham (6-3, 220) has appeared in 15 career games, recording 10 tackles and one tackle for loss.

While Wright stopped short of revealing exactly how the 49ers plan to deploy their linebacker group this season, he made it clear that he believes Graham is positioned to make an impact in an off-ball role.

"That's where he will excel on this football team," Wright concluded.
