Key contributors like quarterback Brock Purdy and wide receivers Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings are still out, leaving the offense shorthanded. That could set the stage for backup quarterback Mac Jones to make his fourth start of the season—though he's also dealing with injuries after a gritty performance against the Los Angeles Rams. Jones was limited in practice with knee and oblique issues.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan admitted the team had hoped Pearsall would return to the practice field this week, but tempered expectations.
"He wasn't able to Monday, he's not able to today, so we'll see if there's a turn here on Thursday or Friday, but I'm not counting on it right now," Shanahan said.
There was at least some encouraging news for the 49ers' defensive line. Defensive tackle Kevin Givens had his practice window opened and participated in a limited role on Wednesday. San Francisco also opened safety Malik Mustapha's practice window this week, and he was a full practice participant.
Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Buccaneers, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
