The San Francisco 49ers are weighing their options at kicker after Jake Moody's struggles carried over into Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks. Moody connected on just one of his three field-goal attempts, leaving valuable points off the board in a tight divisional matchup. Fortunately for San Francisco, the team held on for a gritty 17-13 win.

After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan publicly backed Moody, telling reporters there was "no question" about the kicker's status. However, his follow-up comments suggest the team may not be fully committed to standing pat.


Speaking on a conference call on Monday, Shanahan confirmed that the 49ers are exploring possible alternatives at kicker but have not made any definitive decisions on which direction to take.

"We're looking into all that stuff now," Shanahan said. "There's options, just whether it's stay status quo, bringing guys for workouts, practice squad. But we're going through all that stuff right now. I just finished with the team, and I know the personnel department's gonna look into all that stuff and give us those options."

Shanahan admitted he has not yet spoken directly with Moody about the team's evaluation process, noting that a decision must first be made before any conversation takes place.

"But whenever we decide on something, then we'll address it with him," Shanahan added.

Moody, a 2023 third-round draft pick, has faced questions about consistency since his rookie season. With the 49ers looking to bounce back from last season's 6-11 finish, the team may have little patience if his struggles continue.
