Brandon Aiyuk is unlikely to contribute early and could land on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list this week. Rookie Jordan Watkins is sidelined with a high-ankle sprain, second-year receiver Jacob Cowing tore his hamstring in practice, and Russell Gage is dealing with an MCL sprain.
Meanwhile, projected Week 1 starter Jauan Jennings continues to work through a lingering calf injury—though some wonder if he might miraculously heal if he gets the new contract he seeks.
To make matters worse, the NFL suspended veteran Demarcus Robinson for the first three games of the season.
The 49ers recently acquired Skyy Moore in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs, but he's expected to contribute primarily on special teams rather than provide significant offensive production. With Las Vegas Raiders receiver Jakobi Meyers requesting a trade amid a contract dispute, Breech suggests that 49ers general manager John Lynch should consider picking up the phone.
"The 49ers are so banged up at receiver that they made a trade for Skyy Moore last week, but that doesn't mean they can't go after Meyers," Breech wrote. "Unlike Moore, the Raiders receiver is a proven commodity who's gone over 800 yards in each of his past four seasons."
Meyers, 28, is coming off a career-best 2024 campaign with 87 receptions for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns. The year before, he hauled in a career-high eight scores.
Initially signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2019, Meyers spent four seasons in Foxborough before joining the Raiders in 2023. He now enters the final year of his three-year contract—making him an intriguing trade target for receiver-needy teams like San Francisco.
