While the injury is not considered serious, the team is taking a cautious approach to ensuring Pearsall fully recovers before the upcoming NFL training camp.
Shanahan reassured fans that the move is purely precautionary. "We're just making sure Ricky doesn't push it too soon," Shanahan said. "We want him ready for training camp when it really matters."
This latest setback comes after Pearsall's incredible comeback story last season. In a moment that shocked the football world, the former Florida Gators standout missed the start of his rookie NFL year after surviving a gunshot wound to the chest during an attempted robbery.
Defying all odds, Pearsall made his NFL debut just 50 days after the life-threatening incident, recording three catches for 21 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs.
By the end of the 2024 season, Pearsall had solidified his place in the 49ers' offense, finishing with 31 receptions, 400 yards, and three touchdowns. Heading into the new season, he's expected to play an even larger role — particularly with Brandon Aiyuk still recovering from ACL and MCL injuries.
The 49ers are banking on Pearsall's combination of toughness, speed, and sharp route-running to help bolster their passing attack. His chemistry with quarterback Brock Purdy has been a talking point at practices, and fans are eager to see the connection develop further this season.
The coaching staff emphasized they will continue to monitor Pearsall's recovery carefully, ensuring he's back at 100% before returning to full-speed work. With training camp looming, the focus remains on getting everyone healthy and ready for the grind of the regular season.
Stay tuned for updates as the 49ers prepare for what promises to be another exciting year.
