The San Francisco 49ers lost a key front-office member last year when the Washington Commanders hired Adam Peters as their general manager. Now, they may be on the verge of losing another.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that 49ers director of scouting and football operations, Josh Williams, is one of five finalists for their general manager position. Williams interviewed for the job on February 11.

The other finalists are:

Waugh was the 49ers' vice president of player personnel before joining the Jaguars as their assistant general manager in 2022.

Williams recently completed his 14th season with the 49ers. He joined the organization as a scouting assistant in 2011 and was promoted to pro personnel scout in 2013. He later served as a national football scouting representative (2016) and an area scout (2017-2021).

After spending two seasons (2022-23) as a national scout, Williams was promoted to his current role last year. He is set to meet with the Jaguars in person as they begin their next round of interviews.

Matt Barrows of The Athletic notes that if the Jaguars hire Williams as their general manager, the 49ers would receive third-round compensatory picks in 2025 and 2026.
