Cornerback Charvarius Ward remains away from the team following the passing of his daughter, but head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed optimism that the veteran defender's return could be soon.
"I think he's getting close," Shanahan shared. "I'm just talking to him. I don't want to put a date on it because you never know if that could change or not, but he's told us sooner than later, and hopefully, he'll be in a good place to come back."
Several 49ers players, including tight end George Kittle and defensive end Nick Bosa, missed Wednesday's practice due to injuries. However, Shanahan wasn't overly concerned about their statuses.
"I mean, Bosa was able to get through it last week," Shanahan said. "Kittle, I expect to have him out there tomorrow. It's just irritated. We'll be smart today, but you never know how the week goes. But I feel pretty good about both of them."
Bosa described the injury as one of the toughest he's had to play through, adding, "Hopefully, I'm able to rest it up this week and get back out there."
Punter Mitch Wishnowsky could be in danger of missing Sunday's game after a previous back injury flared up. The 49ers signed punter Pat O'Donnell as a backup option.
"Hopefully, it'll take a turn for the better here, but right now, we have some concern," Shanahan admitted.
Running back Christian McCaffrey participated on a limited basis in his first practice since his season debut. Shanahan emphasized that McCaffrey's limited status is part of the planned approach following his return from Achilles tendinitis and not due to any setback.
Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Seahawks, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
