Regardless of these debates, one thing seems increasingly likely: Purdy will become the highest-paid player on the 49ers' roster next offseason and will skyrocket toward the top of the NFL's highest-paid players, especially if he turns in another season like his record-breaking 2023 campaign.
Purdy has found a believer in former NFL quarterback turned analyst Chase Daniel, a 14-year veteran of the league.
"Brock Purdy is a top 3 or 4 quarterback in the NFL," declared Daniel in a recent conversation with The 33rd Team.
Entering only his third NFL season, if Purdy's play continues to trend upward, it will be difficult for anyone to argue with Daniel's assessment. For now, some NFL fans are hesitant to agree with Daniel's statement, as indicated by the responses to the social media post.
Purdy's remarkable 2023 season saw him throw for a single-season franchise record of 4,280 passing yards, accompanied by 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance.
Now, the young quarterback aims to capitalize on his first full offseason with the team. Selected as the last overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy found himself buried on the depth chart during his rookie offseason. Last year, he was recovering from offseason surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow.
Purdy is dedicated to refining his fundamentals this offseason, focusing on footwork, timing, vision, and conceptual understanding.
"There's a lot of stuff that I think I can clean up and get better at, for sure," Purdy recently stated. "So, coming back here, it's been great sitting down with coaches and going over games and concepts, how I can continue to get better."
