The brothers' mother, Cheryl Bosa, responded to an Instagram post speculating about the Los Angeles Chargers trading Joey Bosa to the 49ers. This would unite him with Nick Bosa and create a formidable family duo on the team's defensive line.
Cheryl's response?
"OMG! Do it for Mama [bear]," she shared via Instagram.
Joey has spent his entire career with the Chargers since being drafted No. 3 overall in 2016. The four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher recorded 6.5 sacks during an injury-shortened 2023 campaign that limited him to nine games. While he has only appeared in 14 games over the past two seasons due to multiple injuries, he played in 16 in 2021 and recorded 10.5 sacks.
Both Nick and Joey attended Ohio State, playing for the collegiate football program at different times. The two are close, train together in the offseason, and would obviously love to be teammates one day.
The Chargers recently overhauled their front office and coaching staff, bringing in former 49ers and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Joe Hortiz.
San Francisco's defensive front is also undergoing some renovations. The team plans to release defensive tackle Arik Armstead after the start of the new league year, and Clelin Ferrell and Javon Kinlaw plan to sign with other teams.
In eight NFL seasons, Joey, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, has recorded 321 tackles, 82 tackles for a loss, 143 quarterback hits, 67 sacks, three passes defensed, and 15 forced fumbles in 93 game appearances, with 84 starts.
