Samuel and Gardner-Johnson have been verbally sparring all week on social media, with the latter expressing eagerness to face Samuel and the 49ers on the field once he recovers from a torn pectoral muscle sustained in Week 2. Given both teams' identical 5-1 records, a potential postseason meeting between the 49ers and Lions isn't out of the question.
"Bro, listen, don't be friendly when you see me because you be so flashy," Gardner-Johnson said on Instagram Live. "You better hope all that talk you be doing when we see you all, whatever [playoff] round it may be … because I can guard you. You can't run routes. You're a running back. You're a running back.
"I ain't gonna sit here and play with you, little boy. Just because you got a little bag, people give you a little clout, and then you ain't nothing, bro. Stop playing."
On Wednesday, Samuel was asked about the ongoing feud. The 49ers receiver admitted to Kay Adams that he was unsure why Gardner-Johnson had chosen to initiate the conflict.
"He probably was just thinking about me or something," Samuel said. "So I don't even know where that came from."
Samuel found Gardner-Johnson's most recent comments on Instagram Live comedic.
Samuel said, "It just sounds like he mad I got a little bag and a lot of money, and nobody knows who he is. I ain't going to speak too much on it. I mean, that s--t is over with. I was laughing the whole time."
