NFL insider Ian Rapoport appeared on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football," providing insights on both players' injuries.
"He suffered an oblique injury," Rapoport said of McCaffrey. "Now, remains to be seen if this is a major one; would tend to doubt it. Now, he did end up not coming back, and generally that is not a good sign. But he did come back on the field for at least one play.
"... With that oblique injury, you could see him kind of stretching out that muscle, trying to make it work, trying to get comfortable. More tests today to see the severity of that. Maybe a little bit of good news there, potentially coming."
Rapoport didn't have any new information regarding Samuel. The receiver was ruled out by the time the 49ers took the field for the second half.
As initially reported by Pro Football Talk, Rapoport pointed out that X-rays on Samuel's shoulder returned negative, which is good news for the 49ers. Nonetheless, the receiver is set to undergo an MRI to assess the true extent of his injury.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan is scheduled to speak to reporters via a conference call this afternoon.
