Update: Both Williams and Robinson were each fined $11,473, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media.
The altercation occurred just before halftime. To the surprise of many, Williams was not ejected from the game.
"Most replays don't show that it actually was a retaliatory slug after A'Shawn Robinson hit Trent in the neck," wrote Inman. "That's likely why officials didn't eject the 49ers left tackle just before halftime of win over Giants."
Officials handed out unnecessary roughness penalties to Williams and Robinson following the minor scuffle.
"It was a love tap," Williams joked after the game.
The tackle noted, "A lot of tempers flaring out there. It's a competitive game, and sometimes things boil over a little bit."
