Frank Gore is back with the San Francisco 49ers. The franchise's all-time leading rusher is joining the team in a front-office role, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Gore was on hand for training camp practices on Thursday and Friday.

"We're going to have Frank do a little bit of everything to expose him to all that the front office does," general manager John Lynch told NBC Sports Bay Area. "He was with us in draft meetings from time to time. He'll go out on the road with some of our road scouts to make school calls.

"He is a smart football mind, and we want to tap into it and he wants to learn from us, so it's a good thing for everyone involved."

The Bay Area icon was the 31st inductee of the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame.

The 49ers made Gore a third-round draft pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. The running back rushed for 11,073 yards through 10 seasons with San Francisco.

His 16,000 career rushing yards rank third all-time in NFL history, with only Emmitt Smith (18,355) and Walter Payton (16,726) ranked above him.
