Earlier today, general manager John Lynch informed reporters that Wishnowsky suffered a back injury while lifting weights before reporting to the team for training camp. The 49ers are not expected to sign a replacement punter for upcoming practices.
"It's nothing we're concerned about long-term, but with the back, you want those things to quiet down," Lynch said. "If you don't, they can become chronic. So we want to put that to rest, and we don't think it's too serious."
The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown of Mitchell.
Mitchell (5-11, 191) was originally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round (254th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.
