Some fans wonder what draft picks the 49ers currently own in the upcoming draft. After all, they are still without a first-round pick due to the trade in 2021 to select quarterback Trey Lance. In October, San Francisco sent a package of draft picks, including second-, third-, and fourth-rounders this year, to the Carolina Panthers for running back Christian McCaffrey.
So what's left? Quite a bit, it seems, when you factor in the selections expected to be awarded for players that departed the 49ers last offseason.
Here are the non-compensatory picks the 49ers own:
- Round 5
- Round 5 (Dolphins via Jeff Wilson Jr. trade)
- Round 7
- Round 7 (Broncos via Jonas Griffith trade)
Here are the compensatory picks the 49ers are expected to receive. It's worth noting that the player compensatory picks are based on Over The Cap's projections, and should not be considered official.
- Round 3 (Robert Saleh/Martin Mayhew HC/GM hires)
- Round 3 (Mike McDaniel HC hire)
- Round 3 (Ran Carthon GM hire)
- Round 5 (D.J. Jones to Broncos)
- Round 6 (Arden Key to Jaguars)
Round 7 (Raheem Mostert to Dolphins)offset by Oren Burks signing- Round 7 (K'Waun Williams to Broncos)
That's 10 total draft picks that are expected for the 49ers.
How might defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans' potential departure impact the draft pick list? Matt Barrows of The Athletic breaks it down below.
