Um, what about the Kansas City Chiefs? They beat the Tennessee Titans in overtime after facing the 49ers in Week 7.
"They had a bye week the week after they played us," head coach Kyle Shanahan recently reminded reporters.
Even the 49ers coach, with everything he has going on week to week and who recently joked that he doesn't even know what year is after this season, knows about the streak.
"I'm talking about the next week that no one's won," Shanahan continued. "They (the Chiefs) won two weeks after, but that wasn't the week after, so it's a pretty cool stat. It could be a coincidence, but we like to think not, so we'll take it that way."
Yes, it could be a coincidence. However, it could have something to do with playing a physical 49ers team that can wear down an opponent. The latest victim was the Seattle Seahawks, who lost 24-10 to the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday, making teams 0-13 immediately after playing the 49ers.
Of course, the Seahawks were probably going to lose that game anyway. Still, it's an interesting coincidence, assuming it is one.
"I don't know. I've never really thought about it like that until it started to become a topic," NFL insider Ian Rapoport said of the streak during a Wednesday-morning interview on KNBR. "I guess it's possible it makes sense, if you're so physical that you just leave teams in shambles, and they need an extra week to recover. I don't know. It seems crazy, but the defense is also pretty crazy good, so maybe it's not the craziest thing I've ever heard in my life."
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area provided the following list of results of teams in the week following a game against the 49ers:
- Week 2: Bears, L at Packers, 27-10
- Week 3: Seahawks, L vs. Falcons, 27-23
- Week 4: Broncos, L at Raiders, 32-23
- Week 5: Rams, L vs. Dallas, 22-10
- Week 6: Panthers, L at Rams, 24-10
- Week 7: Falcons, L at Bengals, 35-17
- Week 9: Rams, L at Buccaneers, 16-13
- Week 11: Chargers, L vs. Chiefs, 30-27
- Week 12: Cardinals, L vs. Chargers, 25-24

- Week 14: Dolphins, L at Chargers, 23-17
- Week 15: Buccaneers, L vs. Bengals, 34-23

Will we be able to add the Commanders to the list on New Year's Day?
