Neither head coach Kyle Shanahan nor general manager John Lynch dismissed the possibility of the San Francisco 49ers pursuing Odell Beckham Jr. The wide receiver is getting ready to return from the ACL injury he suffered in February during the Super Bowl.

"We're open to discussions with everybody," Shanahan said last week when asked about Beckham. "We look into everything. You don't have to worry about the trade deadline with him because he's out there and he's available. I've always been a fan of Odell, like I feel like most people are."


Lynch added, "Look, we never say no. We're always looking to get better. And it's a rarity when you have a player of that ilk and some other names out there that still might be available. And we always will look."

Beckham's return is nearing, and it sounds like a decision on which team to join might come soon. One thing is clear, though. Beckham probably wants to go to a contender. While he remains on good terms with his last team, the Los Angeles Rams, they have lost four of their last five and don't look like contenders anymore.

"Odell Beckham, I have learned, will be ready and cleared by the end of this week," FOX NFL insider Jay Glazer said Sunday, per 95.7 The Game. "Full clear, no limitations at all, then after that, it's just up for a team to get his conditioning up and obviously get a playbook down."


The Bills could be a possibility. Beckham's former teammate, Von Miller, is hoping to reunite with the receiver and has been pushing Beckham to join Buffalo for another championship run together.

"(It's) probably going to be a team that can go win a ring right now," Glazer said. "I know Von Miller was trying to get him up there to Buffalo, a team like San Francisco, the Dallas Cowboys. And he still has some love for the Rams. … I think there's going to be a big bidding war for Odell."


It's uncertain if the 49ers would be willing to get into a bidding war for Beckham, who, at best, would serve as the team's No. 3 wideout behind Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. It would also slow the development of the younger receivers further down the depth chart. Still, if team decision-makers feel it increases the Niners' Super Bowl chances, there is no doubt that discussions are taking place internally.

"I mean, he's that good of a player," Shanahan said, "but I'm definitely very happy with our receiver group right now and really love the guys that we have."
