The NFL asked fans via social media who has the best returning wide receiver duo in the league. 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk responded with "I like us Gang," tagging Samuel.
Samuel responded with, "Of course."
The key here would be the NFL asking for the best "returning" wide receiver duo in the league. It may be nothing, but the fact that Samuel responded enthusiastically is a step forward considering where he and the team were just months ago.
Earlier this offseason, Samuel had to watch as other wide receivers across the league earned big paydays while he awaited a contract extension with the 49ers. Later, the disgruntled player asked to be traded, which San Francisco refused to do. While the star wideout did not practice, he attended the 49ers' mandatory minicamp last month.
With 49ers players reporting to training camp in 19 days, a resolution to the 49ers-Deebo drama could be on the horizon.
Samuel is entering the final year of his rookie deal. His breakout 2021 season, when he racked up 1,770 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns, will make him one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL.
