According to Josina Anderson, Jones considered remaining within the NFC West. Before choosing the Raiders, the veteran defender was also considering the San Francisco 49ers—along with the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, and Indianapolis Colts.
A significant number of 49ers fans were hoping the Bay Area team would be in the running for Jones, which would bolster a pass rush already led by fourth-year defensive end Nick Bosa.
The San Francisco defense racked up 48 sacks last season, tying for the fifth-most in the NFL. Bosa accounted for 15.5 of those.
The 49ers are about $9.2 million under the salary cap. Jones' three-year deal with the Raiders is reportedly worth about $51 million.
Jones recorded 41 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 26 quarterback hits, 10.5 sacks, four passes defensed, and six forced fumbles through 15 starts with the Arizona Cardinals last season, per Pro Football Reference.
