"I never doubt Trent Williams," John Lynch said Thursday on KNBR's Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show. "I know how much this means to Trent. I believe, in his 11th year in the league, he hasn't had many opportunities in the playoffs. A guy like that, football means so much to him. He's going to do everything in his power, and Trent is doing that."
Williams has not practiced yet this week, missing Wednesday and Thursday's sessions. On Friday, the team will hold one more practice before heading to Southern California for this weekend's game.
Williams is pushing to play, and a few missed practices may not stop him. Speaking to reporters this week, head coach Kyle Shanahan was hopeful that his left tackle, arguably the best offensive lineman in football, will be on the field at SoFi Stadium protecting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and opening holes for running back Elijah Mitchell.
"He's doing treatment around the clock, I think making really good progress," Lynch added. "While he hasn't been on the field as of yet, I suppose 'hopeful' is the right word. But I, like Kyle, never doubt Trent Williams."
