Earlier this week, head coach Kyle Shanahan ruled out wide receiver Deebo Samuel and linebacker Fred Warner for Sunday. Samuel is expected to miss one to two weeks. Warner could return for Week 14's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Running back Trey Sermon and linebacker Marcell Harris did not practice. Sermon is a candidate for injured reserve while Harris is in the concussion protocol. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw also did practice. Ian Rapoport reports that he is a "long-shot" to play against Seattle.
Who will step up with Warner and Greenlaw expected to miss Sunday's game?
"I think it will be Azeez [Al-Shaair]," Shanahan said. "Fred's a leader and stuff, but on game day, it's not like the big pump-up speeches or anything. It's how he does his job on the field. And Fred's the leader out there because he's the quarterback of the defense. He gets the calls. He gets everyone lined up, being the MIKE linebacker. And this week, that will be Azeez, who's, I think, more than ready for it."
Shanahan added, "Azeez in college or even when he got here, I thought Azeez was always a kind of a splash player. Anybody who runs without hesitation and is very physical and is running through people and doesn't hesitate, those guys make plays."
While running back JaMycal Hasty and defensive lineman Maurice Hurst were limited, Shanahan said there is a chance that both will play this weekend.
Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Seahawks, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
