San Francisco initially signed Kendricks on August 16. However, he landed on injured reserve on August 24 due to what head coach Kyle Shanahan described as a "turf-toe sprain." The team released him on September 2 with an injury settlement. Rapoport notes that the linebacker should be healthy now.
The Philadelphia Eagles made Kendricks a second-round draft pick out of California-Berkeley in 2012. Throughout his nine-year NFL career with the Eagles (2012-17), Seattle Seahawks (2018-20), and Washington Football Team (2020), the linebacker has appeared in 104 games with 91 starts and registered 536 tackles, 30 passes defensed, 19 sacks, seven forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and four interceptions.
The 49ers are coming off their bye week and will host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night. The team has four full practices scheduled for this week, with the first taking place this morning at 11 a.m. PT.
Linebacker Marcell Harris suffered a right-thumb fracture during the 49ers' Week 5 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He had surgery last week and could be available for this weekend's game.
"He'll be good to go after the bye week, but we'll have more details after the surgery," Shanahan said last week.
The 49ers coach is not expected to speak with reporters again until Wednesday.
