Jeremiah joined The Rich Eisen Show this week, and shared his thoughts on what Lance showed against the Raiders. It was the first time head coach Kyle Shanahan showcased plays designed specifically for his rookie quarterback.
Like everyone, Jeremiah was waiting to see what the 49ers will do with Lance, whose athleticism can create headaches for opposing defenses. This past weekend was a preview of that. And it's not just Lance. Defenses still have to worry about Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, and Raheem Mostert. The potential of Lance hurting you with his legs adds to those problems.
"There's so much you're going to have to deal with defensively and to game plan against," Jeremiah told Eisen. "I can't wait. I think it's going to be a nightmare to defend when he gets in the game."
What does Jeremiah envision the 49ers doing with Lance? It could be anything, really. We'll have to wait until September 12 against the Detroit Lions to find out, though.
"I mean, I think everything's on the table," Jeremiah added. "Maybe he's given a drive here and there. Maybe you get into short-yardage situations, he comes out there. Maybe it's just down in the red zone. Eventually, it's going to be his job once he further develops in the passing game, and you're going to have to deal with all this stuff on every down, basically.
"But in the meantime, I think they're going to find ways, just my opinion, watching it, to be able to incorporate him and use a pretty unique skill set that he has with the creativity that you have with Kyle Shanahan. It will be fascinating. I know one thing: You've got to prepare for it, and no matter how much of it they're going to do, you've got to spend a good chunk of time preparing for all that stuff."
