The 49ers later announced the move and revealed that they have claimed cornerback Davontae Harris off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens.
That ends the former No. 10 overall pick's time with his fourth NFL team, having spent previous seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
San Francisco signed Rosen off the Buccaneers' practice squad on December 23, 2020, and the quarterback signed a one-year deal in February to remain with the team.
Rosen was the third 49ers quarterback to enter Saturday's preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He completed 10 of his 15 pass attempts for 93 yards and an interception. That must have shown head coach Kyle Shanahan and the coaches all they needed to see from the 24-year-old quarterback.
Jimmy Garoppolo, Trey Lance, and Nate Sudfeld are the 49ers' remaining quarterbacks.
The Cincinnati Bengals made Harris (5-11, 200) a fifth-round selection out of Illinois State in 2018. He registered 14 tackles, a pass defensed, and a forced fumble through 11 games between the Ravens and Denver Broncos last season. The Ravens waived the cornerback on August 16.
Harris, 26, has recorded 50 tackles, four passes defensed, and a forced fumble through his three NFL seasons.
