"We're sure hopeful that he does (sign soon)," Lynch said. "Sometimes these things -- I just look at our history since we've been here. We've never had a holdout. It always seems to go down to the wire. It's important that he is here.
"I think for any rookie, for every player, every rep counts, every meeting counts, but in particular at that position. So we're hopeful and expecting that Trey will be here and certainly know the importance of him being here."
49ers players reported to the team's facilities this morning for training camp. The first practice is scheduled for tomorrow morning and will be conducted in front of fans. San Francisco has 13 practices scheduled over the next three weeks.
While Jimmy Garoppolo is the team's projected Week 1 starter, the 49ers surrendered future draft capital, including first-round picks over the next two years, to move up nine spots to select Lance. Earlier this offseason, head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't dismiss the notion of playing a rookie quarterback, but for now, Lance is slated to open the season as Garoppolo's backup.
"There's no open competition right now in terms of they're getting equal reps with the same group," Shanahan said via Kirk Larrabee. "Jimmy's coming in as the one and Trey's coming in as the two."
