Verrett and Ingram were teammates for five years (2014-18). Verrett left the Chargers after 2018 and signed with San Francisco. Ingram remained in Los Angeles through last season.
The Chargers drafted Ingram (6-2, 247) out of South Carolina with the No. 18 overall pick in 2012. He registered 10 tackles, five quarterback hits, two passes defensed, and an interception through seven games last season.
49ers defensive end Jordan Willis was recently suspended for six games for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances, so the team may look into its options to maintain depth.
Ingram, 32, has recorded 360 tackles, 70 tackles for a loss, 108 quarterback hits, 49 sacks, 29 passes defensed, three interceptions, and 13 forced fumbles through his nine NFL seasons. Last season was his first without a sack. The defender earned his Pro Bowl selections during each season between 2017 and 2019.
