The 49ers later announced the signing of Pruitt to a one-year deal.
San Francisco also reportedly worked out veteran tight end Delanie Walker on Wednesday. It is unknown if anything will come of that.
The Minnesota Vikings made Pruitt a fifth-round selection out of Southern Illinois in 2015. He recorded five receptions for 49 yards with two touchdowns through 11 games with the Titans in 2020 and has been with Tennessee since 2018. Before that, the tight end spent time with the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans.
Pruitt, 29, has caught 32 passes for 343 yards with four touchdowns through his six NFL seasons. His Pro Football Focus run-blocking grade of 74.3 ranked seventh among NFL tight ends last season. However, Pruitt's pass-blocking grade saw a significant drop since back-to-back seasons in 2018 and 2019 with a grade of 79.0 or higher. That mark fell to 52.9 in 2020.
