San Francisco signed Lee (6-0, 196) on Monday, May 17, after the veteran receiver tried out for the team during its three-day rookie minicamp last weekend. NFL reporter Aaron Wilson later shared that Lee's contract was terminated with an injury waiver designation.
The Denver Broncos signed Fowler (6-1, 218) as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State in 2014. He registered two receptions for 11 yards through five games with the New Orleans Saints last season before landing on injured reserve on October 23, 2020, due to a shoulder injury. Before his time in New Orleans, he spent four seasons with the Broncos (2014-17) and two with the New York Giants (2018-19).
Fowler, 29, has appeared in 68 games with 12 starts and registered 97 receptions for 1,101 yards and six touchdowns through the last six NFL seasons. He did not play during his rookie campaign in 2014. The receiver has also appeared in three postseason games, recording two receptions for 35 yards.
In college, Fowler appeared in 43 games and registered 93 receptions for 1,341 yards and 11 touchdowns to go along with 16 rushing attempts for 102 yards on the ground for the Spartans, per Sports Reference. As a senior in 2013, Fowler caught 36 passes for 622 yards with six touchdowns through 12 games.
