The former Bison quarterback is now the favorite to be the Niners' quarterback of the future, per MyBookie. This follows increased chatter around the league that San Francisco is leaning toward drafting Lance rather than Jones or Fields. Over the weekend, Fields had reportedly been eliminated as a contender.
MyBookie odds for the No. 3 overall pick:
- Trey Lance -150
- Mac Jones -130
- Justin Fields +200
- Zach Wilson +2500
- Kyle Pitts +3500
As of this post, the numbers continue to move in Lance's favor.
"There's a lot of Trey Lance/Niners noise out there in NFL GM/coach circles this morning," NFL Network's Michael Silver reported via Twitter this morning.
Other than the week following his pro day when Fields took the top spot, Jones has been the betting favorite to be the 49ers' pick for much of the time since March 26. That's when the Niners surrendered future first-round picks and a future third-rounder to swap first-round picks this year with the Miami Dolphins. That moved San Francisco up nine spots from the team's initial No. 12 slot.
The early trade left over a month for the media to speculate on who the 49ers sought to draft, and that speculation has been all over the place.
