This week may be different. The fourth-year receiver could return in time for this weekend's game against the New Orleans Saints after his second time on the reserve/COVID-19 list in the span of a week. Shanahan hopes to have him at practice on Friday.
"We'll find out about Bourne here," Shanahan said on KNBR's Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show. "I know there's a chance we can get him tomorrow with the COVID protocols. He's been out of the building since whenever that Tuesday was — a little over a week ago.
"But if Bourne can get in, it will be a good deal because normally missing that much practice, it would probably go a different direction. But we're a little depleted right now.
"Trent (Taylor) missed (practice) yesterday with his back. He was able to get through today, so I'm hoping he'll be able to play in the game. But unfortunately, River Cracraft, out there on Wednesday, got a quad contusion, and he'll probably go all the way up to game time, whether he can play or not."
