Two others — wide receiver Richie James Jr. and running back Jeff Wilson Jr. — landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list in July. Both had the designation removed on August 4.
The reserve/COVID-19 list has been created for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons. If a player falls into either of these categories, his club is required to immediately place the player on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Bourne tested positive for COVID-19 this week. According to NBC Sports Bay Area, the receiver is the only 49ers player who tested positive this week.
The 49ers closed their facilities and are conducting all team activities virtually as they prepare for their game against the Green Bay Packers, still scheduled for Thursday night.
The 49ers are working with the NFL to conduct contact tracing to determine if others may have been exposed to Bourne, who is believed to have practiced with the team on Tuesday night on Levi's Stadium's field.
