Defensive backs Dontae Johnson, Emmanuel Moseley, Jimmie Ward did not practice. Moseley remains in the concussion protocol while Ward is dealing with a wrist injury.
"We weren't concerned at all, just because it was just sore," head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday of Ward's injury. "That's why we didn't talk about it. But today, it was sorer, and the fact that it was getting a little worse and not better, we just wanted to do some tests on it. I'm pretty optimistic about it. We're doing this more for precautionary reasons right now."
The good news is that Jimmy Garoppolo appears to be making progress in his recovery from the ankle injury sustained during Week 2 against the New York Jets. The quarterback returned to practice but was limited.

Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard will continue to receive the bulk of the practice reps until Garoppolo is able to fully participate. Shanahan didn't want to reveal which would be his starter on Sunday should Garoppolo be unable to go.
Also returning was running back Raheem Mostert, who has been dealing with a knee injury also suffered during that Week 2 matchup, and linebacker Dre Greenlaw.
Defensive end Ezekiel Ansah and cornerback K'Waun Williams are both listed as not participating. Both are headed to injured reserve — Ansah for the remainder of the season and Williams for at least the next few weeks.
Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Dolphins, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
