Head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn't always have the specifics surrounding player injuries and will be quick to remind reporters that he is not a doctor. What he does know, however, is that the knee surgeries for both Bosa and Solomon Thomas, who also suffered a torn ACL in the same game, went smoothly.
"I know that it was an ACL. That was the main thing," Shanahan told reporters via Zoom on Wednesday. "I know there was some other stuff to both of them, not exactly (sure about) the specifics. But I do know they both had their surgery, and I've been told that both of them went extremely successful, which you rarely don't hear that. But I know it was clean, and that's about all I know."
Shanahan also provided an update on his veteran cornerback, Richard Sherman, who was placed on injured reserve with a calf injury on September 16. Sherman is eligible to have his practice window opened this week, but the 49ers may wait a bit.

"He was hoping he can get back and practice this week," Shanahan said. "Just looking at him yesterday and stuff, we're going to hold him a little bit longer. I'm hoping he continues to improve, and I'm hoping he'll be ready for next week. I'd be surprised if he got in later this week."
Sherman said this week on the Cris Collinsworth Podcast, which the cornerback co-hosts, that he is targeting a Week 6 return.
"I'm trying to make it back for that (Week 6) game (vs. the Rams)," Sherman told Collinsworth. "The plan was for me to practice this week. We're still working through that. This rehab process, they are way more meticulous than way back in the day when they tell you to tape it up and just get back out there, give your all, and let you go.
"They're concerned with the long-term, making sure I'm able to play the whole season. We'll see."
