A Seattle Seahawks reporter for Sports Illustrated named Corbin Smith states that, per multiple sources, the Seahawks have inquired about New York Jets safety Jamal Adams. He also mentioned the San Francisco 49ers as a team that has "had preliminary discussions" with the Jets about the disgruntled defender who seeks to become the highest-paid safety in football.
It isn't uncommon for NFL teams to inquire about players who may be available. It doesn't always mean a move is imminent.
49ers general John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have long expressed that they would investigate any possibility that could potentially improve their roster.
"We're a very talented football team," Lynch said in February, "but (Raiders) coach (Jon) Gruden, Kyle, they all subscribe to it, I've heard it so many times, you never stay the same. You're either getting better or getting worse. We're into getting better."
It's difficult to imagine San Francisco pulling off a trade for a player demanding a new contract with potential big paydays for some of its own players, like George Kittle and Trent Williams, in the pipeline. Add to that running back Raheem Mostert's agent telling the team to pay his client or trade him.
Both San Francisco and Seattle were listed among the teams to which Adams was interested in being dealt. Of course, that is up to the Jets, and not him. It has been reported that the Jets are uninterested in parting ways with Adams, and don't have a desire to honor his trade request.
The Jets selected Adams out of LSU with the No. 6 overall selection in 2017. He registered 74 tackles, 6.5 sacks, seven passes defensed, an interception, a touchdown, and two forced fumbles through 14 games with the Jets in 2019.
Adams, 24, is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2019.
