The 49ers receivers group, after all, suffered a couple of injuries last week. Second-year star Deebo Samuel suffered a Jones fracture in his left foot while Richie James Jr. fractured his right wrist.
Both injuries will force each receiver to miss some time.
Bourne wasn't on a recruiting mission, though. Nor was he trying to hint that the 49ers should take a look at signing Bryant. It turns out, Bourne was looking to work out with the long-time Dallas Cowboys receiver.
Jordan Schultz of CBS Sports spoke with Bourne this week and asked the 49ers wideout about the exchange. Schultz was kind enough to share the portion of that conversation with 49ers Webzone.
"Yeah, Dez DMs me and said he was going to come get some work with me, man," Bourne told Schultz, "give me some tips and stuff like that. And I was just thinking about it, and I was like, let me make a tweet, let me see what this [does], and it went viral.
"So, I'm looking forward to Dez coming out. He said he's going to come to San Jose and come run some routes with me. He commented on my workout in Nashville, and was just like, 'I like the work you're putting in. That's what's going to get you to the next level in this league.'
"I just appreciated it, man. I was like, 'I got to get with you. I got to train with you one day.'"
Bourne didn't dismiss the desire to possibly have Bryant as a teammate.
"You never know, man," Bourne continued. "We're down guys right now, so we need some help. You never know."
