Rutenberg worked for the Jaguars since 2013. He started his coaching career in 2003 as an assistant to former Washington coach Joe Gibbs. He served Gibbs as an assistant to the head coach from 2004-05. Rutenberg spent time as the defensive backs coach for New Mexico State University and was a defensive graduate assistant with UCLA.
Rutenberg spent time as the Jaguars' assistant defensive backs coach and as a defensive assistant before his role working with the team's linebackers.
49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and Rutenberg worked together in Jacksonville from 2014-16.
