It didn't happen on Thursday, though.
Goodwin was reportedly given permission to negotiate a new contract with interested teams. That would make the receiver easier to trade, and a deal could be struck over the next two days.
General manager John Lynch said on Thursday night that the 49ers continue to search for a new home for Goodwin.
"We're talking with a few teams, and we'll see where that goes tomorrow," Lynch told reporters via a Zoom conference call after the draft's first round.
The GM believes Goodwin can be an asset for another NFL offense and said during a separate interview on KNBR that the offseason addition of Travis Benjamin made Goodwin expendable. Although, head coach Kyle Shanahan in February discussed the possibility of trading Goodwin, even before signing Benjamin.
Added Lynch: "He's an extremely talented player who is a game-changer in terms of what he does to defenses. So, there is interest out there. We'll see where that goes. We're trying to find a good home for him."
