"His character and professionalism was a great influence in our locker room, while his fire and grit on the field added to the physical nature of our team. Just minutes after Adam Schefter of ESPN first reported the release of the offensive lineman, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reported that the 49ers were signing former New York Jets offensive lineman Tom Compton to a one-year deal.
Person, 31, is a nine-year veteran and has spent the past two seasons with the 49ers, which was his second stint with the team. San Francisco made him a seventh-round selection out of Montana State in 2011.
Person becomes the second 49ers starter on offense from this past season who will not return to the team in 2020. Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders departed via free agency, signing a two-year deal with the New Orleans Saints.
