The Seattle Seahawks claimed Josh Gordon last week after the New England Patriots waived the veteran wide receiver. It was reported after the pickup that Gordon would make his Seahawks debut on Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers.

During a conference call with Bay Area reporters, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll sounded a bit less sure of Gordon's status heading into Week 10. He noted that Gordon hadn't taken part in a practice with his new teammates yet, so his availability will be based on what they see from him this week.


Gordon has been working hard to learn the Seattle playbook since his arrival.

"Some teams would just throw him out there," Carroll said. "We're not doing that. We like our guys and all that. We'd love to see if he can complement and help us. We don't know [his status] yet."

It's interesting to hear Carroll note that some teams would "just throw him out there." That's precisely what the 49ers did after trading for wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders on a Tuesday. They had him play on that Sunday, and then again on the following Thursday after a short week.

Sanders' performance in both games made it look as though the receiver had been with the team all season. He had seven catches for 112 yards with a touchdown a week ago against the Arizona Cardinals and has found his way into the end zone in each of his two games with the 49ers.

Of course, Sanders had the benefit of coming in with some familiarity of the playbook thanks to his offensive coordinator in Denver, Rich Scangarello, being San Francisco's former quarterbacks coach.


Despite what Carroll said on Thursday, it seems unlikely that Gordon sits out such an important matchup. Obviously, the Seahawks coach isn't going to reveal too much information about his game plan with the game still four days away.
