"We are a little banged up right now," Shanahan said on the "Murph and Mac" show. "[Deebo Samuel]'s (groin) probably got an outside chance to play here."
The potential absence of Samuel could mean wide receiver Jordan Matthews is active during a game for the first time since the 49ers re-signed him on October 3. He spent the offseason in Santa Clara.
"(George) Kittle's (groin) been banged up," Shanahan continued. "He got to go a little bit more (in practice) yesterday. Last week, he had a pretty bad setback on Friday, which made us nervous about him on Sunday. He was able to get through the game. Had to pull him out there at the end. He's healing up, but he's almost in the same situation again where he was last week. Should be good to go as long as there's no setbacks today but something you've got to watch throughout the game.
"And nothing's changed with our tackles (Joe Staley, fibula; Mike McGlinchey, knee), our fullback (Kyle Juszczyk, knee). We're a lot more healthy on defense. The guy that we have lost, who we're hoping to get, but it's probably an outside chance, very similar to Deebo, is D.J. Jones (hamstring)."
Defensive lineman Solomon Thomas received extended playing time against the Los Angeles Rams following Jones' injury, and that could be the case again if the third-year defensive tackle isn't able to go against Washington.
"Ahkello (Witherspoon) is still out," Shanahan added.
Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley has been filling in admirably for Witherspoon, who suffered a foot sprain during Week 3.
