The 49ers are 5-0 after six weeks of regular-season play and own the best record in the NFC. The team just knocked off the defending NFC champions, and it did so while on the road. Although, you'd hardly know that by looking in the stands.
San Francisco is getting the recognition it deserves from the national media on Monday morning, and even Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is impressed.
Florio believes Shanahan and Sean Payton are the leaders for the NFL Coach of the Year award.
"Your guy, Kyle Shanahan, and Sean Payton, the coach of the Saints, I think are neck and neck for Coach of the Year through six weeks," Florio told his Pro Football Talk Live co-host, Chris Simms. "Because what Payton has done without Drew Brees is remarkable, but what Kyle Shanahan has done with that team is incredible."
Then Florio looked forward. Remember, the 49ers and Saints are scheduled to play each other later in the season. Maybe that game becomes more significant than most imagined.
"Week 14, 49ers at Saints, that could determine the one seed (in the NFC), where the rematch would potentially be if it came down to it," Florio added.
Simms says you could argue that San Francisco is the best team in the NFL while Florio said he would love to see 49ers vs. Patriots in the Super Bowl.
You can watch Florio and Simms discuss the 49ers in the segment below.
