What does this all mean for Armstead's NFL future? Well, that remains up in the air.
General manager John Lynch joined KNBR on Friday and discussed the 25-year-old lineman.
"We've got a lot of guys on that D-line who are playing well," Lynch said on the "Murph and Mac" show. "Arik has been tremendous for us this year. Arik's going to make a lot of money, whether it's with us or somebody else. He's playing really well and bringing a lot to the table.
"So we're glad we have him, and we're going to work hard to try to keep him, but you can only sign so many. So we'll see where that goes."
Lynch said there are some NFL teams which make it a policy to avoid contract discussions during the season. That isn't necessarily the case for the 49ers, though.
"We don't operate that way," Lynch explained. "We do like to finish things, if we can, before the season, and/or address it in the offseason. But we don't hesitate if it's beneficial to both sides to do something during the season."
Armstead played college football at Oregon before the 49ers made him the No. 17 overall selection in 2015. He has recorded 107 combined tackles, 11 sacks, a pass defensed, and two forced fumbles through his five NFL seasons.
