One other player will benefit from the much-needed rest — Nick Bosa. The rookie defensive end joined 95.7 The Game on Tuesday and discussed what the early bye week means for him and his ankle.
Bosa acknowledges that since this is his first NFL season, he doesn't really know any different when it comes to bye-week scheduling because he's never gone through a full 16-game season. He suffered an ankle sprain early in training camp and missed the entire preseason but has appeared in each of the 49ers' three regular-season games.
"I'm definitely going to take full advantage of this time off, and hopefully, my ankle will be an afterthought after this week," Bosa told Damon Bruce, Ray Ratto, and Matt Kolsky.
Bosa says the ankle injury was frustrating because he missed most of OTAs with a hamstring injury, felt good at the start of training camp, and was ready to go until the injury occurred during practice.
"After that, I was so focused on getting back that Week 1 was a goal that I set, and I was getting in no matter what," Bosa continued. "It's obviously something that nags a little bit, and you feel it out there, but I've been able to push through it and help the team, and we're 3-and-0, so it worked out well."
Bosa also discussed what he has learned from his 49ers teammates during his first NFL season, the decision to end his Ohio State college career, living in California, and more.
