Young's addition comes after the 49ers lost Joe Staley for six to eight weeks after the starting left tackle suffered a broken fibula during Sunday's win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Young, 32, was initially signed by the 49ers on August 12 after the loss of swing tackle Shon Coleman (ankle, fibula) for the season. He was waived as part of the team's 53-player roster cut-down on August 31.
The Cowboys made Young a sixth-round selection out of Notre Dame in 2010. Young has 88 game appearances and 21 starts through his nine NFL seasons. He appeared in 22 games with seven starts for the Miami Dolphins over the last two seasons.
Taylor underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his foot on August 9. The wide receiver complained of discomfort following a practice the day before, and an X-ray revealed the injury. The 49ers initially felt Taylor's recovery time would be in the four- to six-week range. It has now been six weeks since the initial injury.
Taylor is a candidate to return from injured reserve and begin practicing with the team in six weeks and could be added to the active roster after eight weeks.
The 49ers made Taylor a fifth-round selection out of Louisiana Tech in 2017. He registered 26 receptions for 215 yards with a touchdown through 14 games, and no starts with the 49ers in 2018. Taylor has caught 69 passes for 645 yards with three touchdowns through his two NFL seasons and was one of the team's most consistent receivers during offseason practices this year.
