Taylor took part in Thursday's practice and later complained of some discomfort.
Update: Originally reported as a broken foot, it was actually a fractured little toe and Taylor doesn't expect to miss a lot of time.
Update 2: Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Taylor had surgery to repair a Jones fracture.
The loss of Taylor is devastating for the 49ers. The receiver had been the most reliable offseason target for San Francisco's quarterbacks, including a stellar training camp.
Taylor was slowed last season after undergoing offseason back surgery and was finally healthy heading into organized team activities this year.
The 49ers made Taylor a fifth-round selection out of Louisiana Tech in 2017. He registered 26 receptions for 215 yards with a touchdown through 14 games and no starts with the 49ers in 2018. Taylor has caught 69 passes for 645 yards with three touchdowns through his two NFL seasons.
The 49ers already lost swing tackle Shon Coleman for at least the remainder of Saturday's game against the Cowboys. Then running back Raheem Mostert sustained a potential concussion later in the first quarter, was examined in the blue sideline tent, and then taken to the locker room for further examination.
Update: Mostert has been ruled out.
The absence of the 27-year-old Mostert leaves the 49ers with Austin Walter and Brandon Wilds at running back for the remainder of the game. San Francisco signed Walter as an undrafted free agent, and Wilds was signed just hours before Saturday's kickoff.
The Philadelphia Eagles signed Mostert as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue in 2015. He carried the football 34 times for 261 yards with a rushing touchdown while adding six receptions for 25 yards through nine games and no starts with the 49ers in 2018.
Mostert has 297 rushing yards on 41 attempts with a rushing touchdown through his four NFL seasons. He also spent time with the Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, and Miami Dolphin during his professional career.
Not long after Mostert's injury, defensive tackle D.J. Jones left the field and was evaluated for a knee injury. He is questionable to return to the game.
Update: Jones has been ruled out.
The 49ers made Jones a sixth-round selection out of Ole Miss in 2017. He registered 17 combined tackles through 10 games and four starts with the 49ers in 2018. Jones has recorded 27 combined tackles and a pass defensed through his two NFL seasons.
Update: Safety Marcell Harris left the second quarter with an injury after making a tackle. He entered the blue medical tent for further evaluation before returning to the sideline with his helmet in hand.
Update: Offensive lineman Najee Toran injured his hand and is questionable to return.
