Jimmy Garoppolo has been held out of 11-on-11 team drills up to this point. That changed on Wednesday. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback has been limited as he continues to recover from the ACL injury he suffered in late-September. He was not expected to take part in 11-on-11 drills until training camp.

Multiple reporters observed Garoppolo take a rep during team drills on Wednesday, completing a pass to second-year wide receiver Dante Pettis. Then the quarterback continued the drive minus the defensive linemen (11-on-7), moved the offense down the field, and threw a touchdown pass to Pettis.


The defensive linemen left the field because Shanahan got a bit anxious after watching them rush his franchise quarterback.

"I told the D-line, 'Just stand there and put your hands up. No one's allowed to rush,'" Shanahan said. "The animals that they are and why we love them, they couldn't help it. I saw it, so just stopped it. I wasn't going to mess with it."

Shanahan continued, "I thought there was a huge misunderstanding. They said they were just putting their hands up. I thought it looked a little different. So we ended it pretty quick."

Wednesday's practice was the last of this week's minicamp and the last of the offseason program. The players will receive six weeks off before they are expected to report to training camp in late-July.
