Now, Samuel is ready to be a bully on the football field. He joined KNBR immediately after becoming the No. 36 overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers.
Samuel was asked if he liked to bully defensive backs.
"Oh yeah," he responded. "That's part of my job."
The 49ers hope Samuel can become a receiving threat in the red zone, which is something the team has struggled with in recent years.
"You get man-to-man coverage with a little bit of pressure," Samuel explained. "Me personally, I just feel like you've got to beat the man in front of you. That's kind of been my mentality, and that's how it shows up on film."
Samuel was exposed to head coach Kyle Shanahan's offensive scheme at the Senior Bowl. He was part of the 49ers-coached South squad during the annual college all-star game.
"I kind of got a feel for his scheme at the Senior Bowl, and I kind of fell in love with it," Samuel said. "Like the route concepts, the terminology and stuff, and how smart [Shanahan] is."
