The Denver Broncos signed Garland as an undrafted free agent out of Air Force in 2010. He was placed on the Reserve/Military List to serve his two-year military commitment and returned to the Broncos in 2012, where he spent two years (2012-13) on the practice squad.
Garland, 31, started his career as a defensive lineman before moving to the offensive line in 2012. He has 54 game appearances and seven starts through his five NFL seasons.
Garland spent the past four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, which includes the two years (2015-16) 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spent there as the team's offensive coordinator. He spent time on the practice squad before being promoted to the active roster on December 15, 2015.
Garland (6-5, 308) appeared in 46 games with seven starts along the defensive and offensive lines over the next three seasons and appeared in 14 games with four starts at guard and on special teams in 2018.
